Testimonies are not filler between songs, announcements, or a sermon. They are powerful declarations of the faithfulness, love, and power of God. When we tell what God has done, we give people a reason to hope again, to stand again, and to believe again.
Some testimonies are big and dramatic. Others may seem small, like finding something that had been lost, receiving peace in a stressful moment, or seeing God make a way through an ordinary inconvenience. But every true testimony points to the same thing: God is alive, God is present, and God is faithful to His people.
Giving Is Also a Testimony of God’s Faithfulness
Before getting into the heart of testimonies, it is important to remember that giving itself becomes a testimony. Giving is not merely a financial transaction. It is a service to the Lord and to His people.
In 2 Corinthians 9:10-12, Paul teaches that God provides seed for the sower and bread for food. He supplies what we need, multiplies the seed we sow, and increases the fruit of righteousness in our lives. He enriches His people so they can be generous whenever an opportunity arises.
That means when a need appears in the church, among missionaries, or in another ministry, God is not surprised by it. He already knows. He is able to place provision in the hands of His people so that they can respond with generosity.
Giving does several things at once:
- It meets practical needs in the body of Christ.
- It expresses obedience to God.
- It releases generosity rather than fear.
- It produces thanksgiving to God from the people who are helped.
- It reminds us that God is the One who supplies everything we have.
There is an old phrase that can sound like a cliché until you live it: you cannot outgive God. God is not asking us to give until we are empty and afraid. He calls us to trust Him, obey Him, and give with a cheerful heart. He continues to pour into our lives so that we can be a blessing.
A Step of Faith in a Difficult Season
There was a season when I had lost my job after the mill where I worked shut down. At the same time, my family had six children and we had committed to a missions trip. Financially, it did not appear to be the time to increase our giving.
During a gathering with a local prophet and other church leaders, I received a word that was simple and direct: double your giving.
That was not an easy word to hear when there was no regular income coming in. Yet when the pastor came behind the prophet and quietly asked, “When are you starting?” the answer came quickly: the following Sunday.
My wife Becky and I stepped out in faith. We were already tithing, but we began giving beyond the tithe. We continued doing that for many years, and God proved Himself faithful again and again.
For a man with a high school education who never expected to earn what he eventually earned, God opened doors and provided abundantly. By the time I retired from the steel mill, I was making more than I ever imagined possible. The point is not the amount. The point is this: God is faithful when we obey Him.
If giving has become a struggle or a source of fear, ask the Lord to release joy in your heart. He knows every need before it arrives. He is able to provide more than enough, not only for you, but also so you can bless others.
We Overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of Our Testimony
The foundation for the power of testimony is found in Revelation 12:11. The enemy is overcome by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of our testimony, and by a people who do not shrink back even in the face of death.
The blood of Jesus is central. Without Jesus, there is no salvation, no forgiveness, no healing, no restoration, and no victory. But Scripture also shows us that the word of our testimony has real power.
A testimony is a spoken witness that something is true. It is evidence. It is proof that God has acted. When we stand and say, “God came through for me,” we are declaring truth in the presence of others.
Testimonies strengthen faith because they bring the reality of God close. A person may argue with theology. They may reject a Bible verse before they fully understand it. But it is much harder to dismiss a life that has been transformed by Jesus.
The Tabernacle of Testimony Reveals God’s Heart
In the Old Testament, the wilderness tabernacle was also called the tabernacle of testimony or the tabernacle of witness. That raises an important question: what was it witnessing about?
From the beginning, God loved His creation. He made Adam and Eve in His image. When sin entered the world and they were sent from the garden, God’s heart was still set on restoration. He wanted to bring humanity back to Himself.
The tabernacle was a witness to that desire. It showed that God was making a way to dwell among His people. It was a testimony of His holiness, His mercy, His love, and His plan of redemption.
That is what a testimony does today. It says:
- God loves people.
- God still restores what has been broken.
- God still meets people in impossible situations.
- God is still powerful, personal, and present.
Every time we testify about God’s goodness, we declare that His love and power are alive and working in our lives.
Write Down What God Has Done
Do not forget the things God has done for you. Write them down.
Keep a journal, notebook, or record of the ways God speaks, provides, heals, protects, directs, and encourages you. Write down dates, details, Scriptures, and the words He gives you. What may feel ordinary today can become a lifeline for someone tomorrow.
God may bring a person into your path months or years from now who needs to hear exactly how He was faithful to you. That written memory can become a testimony that builds faith in someone else.
Testimonies are not meant only for Sunday gatherings. They belong in homes, workplaces, small groups, conversations, hospital rooms, and everyday life.
Sometimes God shows His love in ways that seem small. A prayer over a missing can of hairspray may sound insignificant, but when it is found in an unexpected place, it becomes a reminder that God cares. Those moments are like a kiss from God. He is the God who moves mountains, but He is also the God who cares about the details of our lives.
Testimony Stands on Truth
A testimony is rooted in truth. It is not wishful thinking, exaggeration, or religious performance. It is a declaration of what God has done and who He is.
God supplies the needs of His people. God gives strength in difficult situations. God moves mountains. God remains faithful when circumstances are frightening. These are not just nice ideas. They are truths we can stand on.
There are several ways God gives us truth to stand on:
- His written Word, the Scriptures.
- A prophetic word that aligns with His character and His Word.
- A rhema word, a personal word quickened by the Holy Spirit for a specific moment or situation.
What Is a Rhema Word?
A rhema word is a specific word from the Holy Spirit that brings life and clarity into a personal situation. It may come through Scripture, prayer, a trusted believer, or a direct prompting from God.
It is not a replacement for the Bible. Rather, it is the Holy Spirit making God’s truth personal and immediate for a particular need.
For example, when someone prays about a lost item and senses the Lord say, “Look in the closet,” that is a rhema word. It may not be a verse printed in the Bible, but it is God giving direction in a moment of need.
New believers should not assume God will not speak to them because they are just beginning. God was speaking before many of us even knew Him. We may not have recognized His voice at the time, but He was drawing us, guiding us, and calling us to Himself.
Why a Personal Testimony Can Reach Where Arguments Cannot
Shortly after becoming a Christian, I had an opportunity to share the gospel with a man I had known in the Navy. We had partied together before I came to Jesus. When he came to a Christian center to find out what had happened to me, several of us surrounded him with every Bible verse we could remember.
We meant well. We were young believers and eager to share the Word. We gave him Scripture after Scripture, but he mostly sat there overwhelmed.
Then the Lord prompted me to tell him my testimony. I told him how Jesus had taken me from a life of drugs and sexual sin and given me a life filled with God.
When I finished, he said that all the Scriptures had been intense, but the testimony was what made the greatest difference to him.
God’s Word is powerful. It is true, alive, and sharper than a two-edged sword. There is a right season for sharing Scripture, and we should never minimize it. But there is also something unique about your testimony. People can argue with a verse, but they cannot honestly deny the reality of what Jesus has done in your life.
Your testimony bears witness to truth.
Standing on God’s Word in a Medical Crisis
Recently, I went through a serious health situation involving severe abdominal pain. Testing revealed an abscess in my abdominal wall, and early concerns included the possibility of cancer.
From the moment cancer was mentioned, Becky took a stand. She refused to accept that diagnosis. She declared that it would not be cancer. I was not overwhelmed with fear, but I was concerned. Becky stood in faith from the beginning.
While I was in the hospital, a word came through Pastor Todd:
Because you are God’s servant and have served Him well, the Lord will raise you up to good health and add years to your life.
Becky wrote it down immediately. That word stayed beside my bed, and we returned to it constantly. We were standing on what God had spoken.
Another word came early in the process: something hidden would be revealed.
At first, we did not understand what that meant. A colonoscopy showed a polyp and the abscess, but medical professionals were still concerned about cancer. Then there was a frightening episode in which the entire room suddenly seemed distorted and unfamiliar. It was terrifying and disorienting, though the medical staff found my vital signs to be stable.
Later, a surgeon connected the episode to the hidden abscess and the effects it may have been having on my body. The words about something hidden being revealed came back with new meaning. Surgery was needed quickly.
During surgery, doctors removed a foot of colon and cleared the abscess from the abdominal wall. Through it all, God was faithful. He worked through prayer, through the steadfast faith of my wife, through the care of doctors and nurses, and through the prophetic words that gave us something to stand on.
Test after test came back negative for cancer. Finally, the last remaining results were reviewed, and there was no cancer.
God gets all the glory.
God Revealed What Had Been Hidden
What made this even more meaningful was the timing. On our fiftieth wedding anniversary, I was carrying large vases of flowers into a restaurant. As I twisted to get through a doorway, I felt a sharp, stabbing pain in my side. It lasted a few days and then faded.
Later, while on a trip and lifting something heavy with my brother, the pain returned and did not go away. That pain ultimately led to discovering the hidden condition.
Fifty years is a Jubilee anniversary, a picture of restoration, redemption, and God giving back. On that very anniversary, God began exposing something in my body that could have caused far greater harm if it had remained hidden.
God revealed it. God brought the right people together. God gave strength. God gave healing. God was faithful.
Testimonies of Joy, Healing, Provision, and Restoration
When one person testifies, it gives others courage to share what God has done. The body of Christ is strengthened when people are willing to stand up and say, “This is how God met me.” The following testimonies came after the message:
Supernatural Joy After Deep Sorrow
One testimony came from a woman who was preparing to leave the home she had built with her husband, Kevin. The house also held memories of her son. After losing both her husband and son, the decision to move carried enormous weight.
God confirmed the move. Her house sold in one day with multiple offers over the asking price, and she was under contract for a new home. Yet after the contracts were in place, a deep sorrow returned. Leaving the last physical reminder of her life with her husband and the home her son had entered felt unbearable.
But joy returned.
It was not something she could produce in her own strength. In the natural, grief of that magnitude could leave anyone crushed. Yet God brought supernatural peace and joy, along with hope for a new beginning.
She also shared an important reminder about the word try. When we try in our own strength, we take on the burden of maintaining everything ourselves. But when we yield to the Lord and allow Him to work, He sustains what He begins. Rather than striving to be a better Christian through performance, we must yield to Him.
Joy Came in the Morning
Another testimony came after three eye surgeries. During the procedure, a phrase kept coming to mind: joy comes in the morning.
Later that evening, vision suddenly disappeared in the affected eye. Anxiety tried to rise up, but the response was to stand on God’s Word: “Be anxious for nothing.” The anxiousness was brought to the Lord in exchange for His peace, the peace that passes understanding.
When the doctor on call could not reach the surgeon, the direction was to wait until morning. The phrase returned: joy comes in the morning.
At 5:30 the next morning, there was still no vision. By 7:30, vision had returned.
God gave a rhema word, peace in the middle of uncertainty, and a reminder from Psalm 46:1 that He is a very present help in times of trouble.
Faith When Healing Does Not Look the Way We Expected
Another woman shared how a gallbladder attack led doctors to discover a tumor on her pancreas. The tumor was diagnosed as a type of cancer that was not expected to spread, so doctors monitored it for three years.
After the tumor shrank one year, there was hope that it would be completely gone at the next scan. Instead, it grew. That was disappointing. But faith is not wasted just because an outcome does not unfold the way we expected. God is pleased when we use our faith and trust Him.
A procedure was eventually performed to remove the tumor through a noninvasive approach. It went well. Later, doctors checked a possible concern involving the bile duct and found that nothing was wrong.
In the middle of the process, God had given a personal word: all is well.
That brought to mind the Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4. Even when her son had died, she did not stop to rehearse every terrible detail to everyone she encountered. She held onto faith and declared that all was well.
There is wisdom in guarding the word God has given you. Not every word needs to be shared with every person. Hold it close, return to Scripture, and allow God to strengthen your heart.
Speaking Faith Into Everyday Circumstances
Testimony also reminds us that we have authority to speak by faith. One woman encountered lowered railroad gates on the way to church, even though the train had not yet arrived. Instead of accepting delay and frustration, she spoke in faith that she would arrive on time. The train was unusually short, and she made it on time.
This may seem small, but God is involved in the small things and the large things. We can speak to storms, speak over our finances, and speak over the promises God has given us. We can declare that our circumstances will line up with the Word of God.
Faith speaks. It does not pretend that obstacles do not exist, but it refuses to allow obstacles to have the final word.
Healing After an Injury
Another testimony celebrated God’s healing after a serious leg injury. What could have resulted in being out for nine months or longer became a much quicker recovery. After surgery and only a couple of months, there was a return to normal activity and the ability to play again.
God brought healing, strength, and restoration. All glory belongs to Him.
Three Years Free From Alcohol and Drugs
One of the most powerful testimonies was a celebration of three years of returning to God and living free from alcohol and drugs.
Some may hear three years and think it is not very long. But for someone who has walked through addiction and withdrawal, three years is significant. It is evidence of God restoring a life that had been consumed by years of drunkenness and substance abuse.
This is also an encouragement to anyone praying for a loved one who is struggling. Do not stop praying. A mother’s persistent prayers became part of this testimony. God hears. God restores. God answers prayer.
Faithfulness Over Time and the Fulfillment of a Prophetic Word
Another testimony came from a man who had held onto a prophetic word for years. The word spoke of building, but also of seasons when the rug would be pulled out from under him. That pattern seemed to repeat itself through difficult financial years and uncertain work.
There were times when the next meal or the next source of income was unclear. Yet he continued to pull out that prophetic word, read it, and stand on it. He continued to show up each day and ask God what was on the plate for that day.
Like David, Joseph, Abraham, and others in Scripture, the promise did not come to fulfillment immediately. David was anointed long before he became king. Joseph received dreams before he ever saw their fulfillment, and his path included betrayal, slavery, and prison. God’s timing is not always fast, but He is faithful.
After three years of building a platform with long days and little immediate return, a key piece finally came into place. Then a major contract arrived through his Wi-Fi business, worth several times what he would normally earn in a year.
The encouragement is simple: keep running the race. Give God your best every day. Leave it all on the field. Do what you can do with excellence, and trust God to take care of the rest.
Your Testimony May Be the Encouragement Someone Needs
Do not hold back what God has done. Your story may be exactly what someone else needs to hear.
You do not need a microphone, a platform, or a perfectly polished story. You simply need to tell the truth about God’s faithfulness. Share how He saved you, healed you, provided for you, gave you peace, restored your family, spoke to you, or carried you through sorrow.
Testimony does three important things:
- It glorifies God. The attention goes back to the One who acted.
- It encourages the body of Christ. Faith rises when we hear what God has done.
- It confronts the enemy. Revelation 12:11 reminds us that the word of our testimony is part of overcoming.
God’s testimonies move mountains because they reveal Jesus. They reveal the love of God displayed in His people. They stir faith, awaken hope, and remind us that the same God who was faithful yesterday is faithful today.

- Are you trying to carry your spiritual life in your own strength, or are you yielding to the Lord and allowing Him to sustain you?
- Where is God inviting you to respond with faith, generosity, or obedience today?
- Who in your life needs to hear that God is still able to restore, heal, provide, and save?
May your life be full of testimonies, and may every testimony bring glory to Jesus.
