There is a fullness of life waiting for every believer — but it is often unlocked by one simple thing: becoming active in sharing Jesus. That was the heart of the message: when we open our mouths and tell others what Jesus has done for us, something powerful is released in our own lives and in the lives of those we reach.
Why sharing your faith matters
Paul wrote a short but stunning sentence in Philemon 1:6: “I pray that you would be active in sharing your faith so that you would have a full understanding of all the good things that you have in Christ Jesus.”
Notice the link: being active in sharing faith is not just for other people. It is a pathway to your own fullness in Christ. You can be gifted in prayer, generous with resources, even courageous in personal holiness, but until you begin to share Jesus, some dimensions of the Christian life will remain closed to you.
Let the burden fall — you cannot save anyone
There is real freedom in admitting this: you cannot save anyone. Only Jesus saves. Once that truth sinks in, the heavy load of trying to force outcomes drops off. Our task is simpler and lighter than we often make it: open your mouth and tell people what Jesus has done for you. The saving and confirming work belongs to God.
God confirms his message
History in Acts shows us that as the gospel goes out, God often confirms the message with signs and wonders. He delights to reveal himself. Even where speaking openly is dangerous, God finds ways — dreams, visions, miracles — to open people’s hearts. Your responsibility is to speak; his responsibility is to reveal.
Expect division, but do not stop
Sometimes sharing Jesus will bring division or even persecution. That is part of the pattern in Scripture. But division is not the last word. It is temporary pain for eternal fruit. Keep praying, keep speaking, and keep believing.
Learn from Paul’s testimony (Acts 26)
Paul’s conversion testimony is a template for how God uses personal witness. In Acts 26 he recounts a dramatic encounter:
- On the road to Damascus he saw a light brighter than the sun.
- He heard, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”
- Jesus told him, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.”
- Then the command: “Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness.”
There are several lessons here:
- People who oppose the gospel are often in a place of bitterness and pain. The image of “kicking against the goads” shows how resisting God wounds the resister.
- When people attack believers, they are really opposing Jesus because Jesus identifies with his people: what you do to them you do to me.
- God rescues and then sends. Paul was rescued from his own people and the Gentiles who persecuted him, and yet God sent him back to them — not out of punishment but out of purpose.
- Your testimony matters. God appointed Paul as a servant and a witness of what he had seen and would see. That is the core of evangelism: tell what God has done.
The vine and the flow (John 15)
Jesus pictured himself as the vine and us as the branches. The point is clear: what the vine has, the branches receive. That means everything Jesus has — love, grace, joy, provision, power — is meant to flow into us. If you are not experiencing that flow, the problem is not a stingy vine. It is a broken connection that needs to be restored.
When that connection is alive, you will have a well of testimony inside you. What overflows out of that well is natural evangelism. You will share out of delight, not duty.
Practical steps to become active in sharing Jesus
- Start with your story. You do not need to be a theologian. Tell people what Jesus has done in your life — that is your most powerful tool.
- Pray for open eyes. Pray, “Lord, open their eyes,” for the people you care about. God specializes in removing blindness and revealing himself.
- Reconnect to the vine. If your faith feels dry, be honest about it. Seek a fresh connection so the flow of grace can fill you again.
- Expect opposition, but go anyway. God may rescue you from fear or danger, and then send you back with authority and boldness.
- Share out of delight, not duty. When you are filled, evangelism becomes joyful, not an obligation.
- Use what you already have. God has given you everything you need to have a readied story to tell. The small circumstances of how God met you will mater to everyday people.
A real example
There was a season when the pastor reconnected with the Lord in a fresh way. His well began to overflow and he took to walking his neighborhood, going door to door to tell people about Jesus. He saw a few come to faith and endured arguments, but the overflow made it natural to speak. That overflow is what God wants for every believer.
A short prayer to send you out
Ask for boldness. Ask for a fresh filling. Pray that your mouth would open and that God would pour his love and anointing into your words. Expect that as you speak, God will move.
Application questions
- Can you name three things Jesus has done for you that you could share with someone this week?
- Who in your life needs you to pray, “Lord, open their eyes” — and will you pray that deliberately?
- Is there any fear or bitterness holding you back from sharing? What step will you take to be freed from it?
- What practical action will you take this month to make room for someone to join you in church or community?
Go ahead and speak what God has done. Get up. Stand on your feet. You were appointed as a servant and a witness. The fullness of Christ is waiting on the other side of your testimony.
